Grrr Movie Synopsis
The movie begins with a scene in which prime-time news from various television channels reports the disappearance of a youth named Regimon Nadar from the hospital premises. They presented a number of scenarios following the mishap. Some assumed it could be a matter of a love affair gone wrong or it may be a matter of honour killing.
Now we enter the flashback, where the first main protagonist, Regimon Nadar, is with his friend Anas in his car, and they are heading for the marriage registrar office for Regimon’s court marriage with Rachna. Regimon continuously calls upon his girlfriend to confirm her arrival on time, but unfortunately, her phone seems to be switched off. Anas consoled him, saying she would definitely be there on time, so he should not worry.
The next scene takes place in the house of our second major protagonist, Mr. Haridas Nair, as he prepares for his office. At a local zoo, he works as an animal food security officer. As soon as he sits down at the breakfast table, his wife immediately begins to complain about how her life has turned sour since the day she married him. However, Haridas doesn’t get irritated with her objections and criticism since it has become a daily affair.
Rather, he heads for his work, only to find that the zoo superintendent is not pleased with his conduct on the job. She rebukes Haridas for the irregularities in feeding the lions and tigers at the zoo and warns him of a suspension. He seeks an apology and asks the superintendent to grant him a day of leave due to family obligations.
In the meantime, Anas took Regimon to a local bar to console him when his girlfriend didn’t turn up for their marriage. Regimon felt abandoned and called himself worthless. After a few drinks, they got into Anas’s car. However, Anas had to divert his car to the zoo site when he saw that a police patrol was checking all the vehicles moving in their direction. Since both of them were under the influence of alcohol, they would have been penalized. Therefore, Anas decided to make a last-minute escape.
When parking the vehicle at the zoo site, he asks Regimon to stay put in the car while he grabs some ice cream for them. In this inebriated state, Regimon makes an exit from the car and takes a seat in the zoo tour ecart, which then rolls inside the zoo premises. Unfortunately, when Anas returns, Regimon is nowhere to be found. Anas searches everywhere, but he stays missing.
Suddenly, Anas observes that the people inside the zoo are all running in one direction, and he hears the zoo staff calling for an emergency. He too heads in the same direction to see what the hullabaloo is all about. And to his surprise, an unexpected incident has just occurred. Regimon, Anas’s close friend, has dared to enter the lion enclosure. There is complete chaos at the zoo, with each and every person wanting to have a glimpse of the lions den.

Meanwhile, just before Haridas was about to leave, his colleague came running to him and corroborated the entire situation. Without wasting any more time, Haridas grabs his two counterparts and enters the lion enclosure, stealthily striving to make Regimon understand that they need to move out as early as possible. But he was too drunk to understand anything. With emotions like failing in love, Regimon was adamant about proving a point that he fears nobody, neither the girl’s father, who was a shrewd politician, nor the lion, who was a meat eater.
Finally, Haridas and the helpers caught hold of Regimon and tried to get him out of the enclosure. However, Regimon’s screaming and shouting prompted the lion to retreat into the wild. Watching the lion come out of his den, the two helpers made a run for their lives and successfully came out of the enclosure. Haridas somehow got stuck with Regimon. He grabbed Regimon and pleaded not to make a noise, as it would make the lion restless.
On the other hand, when the police and firefighting officials arrived at the location, they began brainstorming to find a solution. Slowly, the news spread like wildfire, and the press started to come in to capture the live incident. In the meantime, the zoo authority summoned the official zoo doctor, instructing him to bring his anaesthetic syringe for controlling the lion. When he discovered that the drug was out of stock, he fled the scene in order to avoid accountability.
The police inspector informs the zoo superintendent about the availability of Thambi Himagiri, an expert in tranquillizers, who could assist in putting the lion to sleep. However, during the entire struggle to control Regimon, Haridas’s phone by a fluke landed near the lion’s den. Unaware of the dire situation, Haridas’s wife calls her husband to confirm his availability for her brother’s scheduled match-making visit. The foreign element inside the enclosure made the lion grow aggressive when it noticed the ringing phone.
When the call remained unanswered, the Haridas family proceeded to meet the prospective bride. Co-incidentally, it’s the same girl, Rachna, with whom Regimon is in love. She discreetly calls Anas on her prospective match’s mobile phone. Anas apprises Rachna of the whole situation, and she hurriedly drives towards the zoo. Rachna’s father, along with his son, follow her. In the meantime, Haridas’s wife saw her husband on the TV news channel, and she too drove towards the zoo to check on him.
By then, the tranquillizer expert has arrived and is looking for the perfect locale to take the shot. Unfortunately, the shot went haywire and struck Haridas instead of the lion. Given the current situation, the zoo superintendent became extremely frustrated with the tranquillizer expert. His assistant, however, confirms that his boss needs a peg or two of alcohol, and he will be as skilled as ever to take the perfect shot. The police made arrangements for the alcohol for Mr. Himagiri, and then he took the final shot, which was spot on.
Luckily, the firefighter personnel had sprayed Regimon with water, bringing him to his senses, while Haridas, under the influence of tranquillizer, was badly sedated and could hardly walk. The firefighter’s extracted both Regimon and Haridas from the lion’s den. Looking at Haridas’s condition, his wife forgets all her complaints and begins to realise how much she is in love with her husband. Ranchna, on the other hand, educates Regimon about the mistake he has made. Because their affair is now public, they are at risk from her father.
Therefore, Regimon plots to self-kidnap himself from the hospital, which will put all the suspicion on Rachna’s father, which in turn will prevent him from taking any extreme step towards them to protect his political career. And that’s how Regimon Nadar and Rachna’s love prevailed.
Grrr Movie Review
The plot of the Grrr movie is very simple. The film centres around a minor zoo event. Malayalam films are known for capturing small to micro moments and making a complete film out of them. Whether it’s the Manjummel Boys or Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, they all grabbed a micro-subject to make a blockbuster. But that doesn’t mean the fate of all such films will be the same.
Grrr is a movie with a good story line; however, it loses its grip in a lot of places. The start of the movie is okay; the core is good; but the ending is very convenient and seems non-convincible. With a fantastic star cast, the movie could have been better. It seemed as if the actors were not utilising their potential. Overall, the comic timing is good, and the music is pretty ordinary.
Grrr Movie Concluding Words
Malayalam films and web series are known for their raw, authentic stories. The Grrr movie is a typical Malayalam film industry production. Regrettably, it’s difficult to conclude whether it’s serious or a comedy flick. Still, it’s a decent movie for one-time viewing. The poster looked very promising to me at first sight, but sadly, content-wise, it’s very basic. Meanwhile, people of all groups can binge-watch this movie at least once with their family or loved ones. The movie is free of any coarse language or adult content.
